Ford Performance Vehicles General Manager Rod Barrett has been appointed Chairman of the Board of management for the Australian Formula Ford Championship.

With a rich motorsport heritage, Barrett is no stranger to Formula Ford, having competed in the category in the UK, while his father, Jim Barrett, raced in the very first Australian Formula Ford series in 1970.

"I'm extremely honoured to be offered this position in Australia's premier open-wheeler category," Rod Barrett said.

"Formula Ford has always been close to my heart so to make a return in this capacity is really exciting.

"When you consider that Formula Ford is where the champions of tomorrow cut their teeth, it feels pretty good to know you're part of their development," he said.

Barrett replaces Roland Dane who vacates the position to concentrate on his booming Triple Eight V8 Supercar team.

"Rod brings a wealth of experience learned both on and off the track that will prove invaluable to Formula Ford in Australia," Administrator and Category Manager Margaret Hardy said.

"To have someone of his calibre heading our Board makes for a very promising future."

"In welcoming Rod I must also thank Roland for the generous contribution he made to our category . we certainly have been privileged to work with the best of them," she added.
